What do I do with my Omikuji? Do I tie it to a tree on the shrine grounds?
Many times Omikuji are tied onto a tree on the shrine grounds or on an Omikuji stand regardless whether it was a favorable or unfavorable fortune. The ancient Japanese felt that the life force of nature will aide in strengthening the positive messages of the Omikuji or lessen the negative implications of an unfavorable Omikuji. It is also the act of tying (musubi), that was considered a vital force that connotes the sense of harmoniously creating and connecting. One can also hold onto the Omikuji as an affirmation until the fortune has been fulfilled. By using positive affirmations and backing them up with action and persistence, we can create and attract positive life experinces into our lives.
